Aberdeen Ironbirds - #18 - 2002
Player Unknown
In 2002, Ripken Professional Baseball purchased the Utica Blue Sox with the intent of hatching a new brand of minor league baseball. With that, the Aberdeen IronBirds were born. Members of the New York-Penn League, the IronBirds are one of 7 farm teams for the Baltimore Orioles; that ties the Orioles with the Atlanta Braves for the most farm team in an organization. The “IronBird” moniker also has ties to one of its owners – Cal Ripken, Jr. The “Iron” refers to Ripken’s streak of 2,632 consecutive games played; the “Bird” is reference to playing his entire career with the O’s. The jersey itself is a unique style, with dark piping down the front and the logo on the left breast. The patch is from their inaugural season in 2002. When the jersey was purchased, it had a Baltimore Orioles 50th anniversary patch on top of the inaugural season patch.

The Hickory Crawdads are a member of the South Atlantic League and play their home games at L.P. Frans Stadium. They have been an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and are the current Single-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The club has won the SAL Championship in 2002 and 2004. The jersey was worn during the 2002 season and the player is unknown.

Kannapolis-A.JPG

One of the best names in minor league baseball came with a checkered past about, what else, its name. The Kannapolis Intimidators haven't always been named after NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt. When the team moved to Kannapolis in 1995, event the front office didn't know what to call them. The phones were answered Piedmont Phillies, Kannapolis Phillies and Lake Fisher Phillies. The team was known as the Piedmont Phillies for the 1995 season. A name-the-team contest gave the team the name Piedmont Boll Weevils, after the city's history of textile milling. When Earnhardt bought the team in 2000, the team assumed his nickname, Intimidator. The jersey is a size 46, is #32 and was worn by the following players: Tim Bittner (2001), Dan Mozingo (2001), Scott Patten (2002), Julio Castro (2003), Jim Terrell (2003) and Michael Moat (2004). The jersey has a certificate of authenticity from the team.

The Kinston Indians, or K-Tribe as they are known locally, are the Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The team plays in the Carolina League and plays home games in Grainger Stadium.
